Sun City, Ariz. – Memorial graveside services for Heloise R. Johnston, 83, of Sun City, Ariz., and Okoboji, formerly of Estherville will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville with the Reverend Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. She died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001 at Desert Harbor in Peoria, Ariz.

A time of luncheon and fellowship for friends and family will follow the services at the VFW Post 3388. Funeral services were held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City.

Heloise was born on May 31, 1918 in Hand County, S.D., the daughter of Edwin and Lila (Fremark) Ross. She attended high school in Redfield, S.D., graduating in 1935. She attended the School of Nursing at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn., graduating in 1940.

She was married to Dr. G.B. Johnston on December 28, 1941 in Estherville.

Heloise nursed in hospitals in Estherville, Santa Anna, Calif., Clearwater, Fla. and Sun City. She retired in Sun City.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iowa Chapter AY of P.E.O., Eastern Star, D.A.R., Colonial Dames of XVII Century, Women, Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery company, Daughters of Colonial Wars, New England Women and Magna Charta.

Heloise is survived by two sons, Jay and his wife, Kathy of Winnetka, Ill., and Robert and his wife, Sheri of Bloomington, Minn.; one daughter, Shelley Roark and her husband, Noah of Greenville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Hildred Kraemer and Helen Wise and her husband Wayne and long time friend, Walt Hokenstad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barklie Johnston, who died Feb. 23, 1967. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 23, 2001)
