Estherville – Alvia Joseph Coleman, 67, Estherville, died Wednesday evening at his home.

Services for Mr. Coleman will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Cliff Haider and the rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at Henry and Olson Funeral Home until time of services.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Coleman, he was born Oct. 22, 1912, at Ottumwa, received his education in Estherville and was married to Opal Johnson on March 22, 1942, at Jackson, Minn. He was employed as a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Veterans of Forein Wars, American Legion, United transportation Union, Boys Scout Council and a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Opal, Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Carol) Pluth and Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Merrill, both of Estherville, and Mrs. John (Cathy) Anderson, Dunnell, Minn.; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Burns, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August, 1980)
