Decorah – Vera [Wilhelmina] Aulerich Cayler, rural Decorah and formerly of the Armstrong and Dolliver area, died Monday, Feb. 26.

Services for Mrs. Cayler were held Thursday, March 1, at Decorah.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Aulerich, she was born Oct. 6, 1906, [per birth and cemetery records, 1907] on a farm west of Monona. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received her education in schools near Monona and later attended Launa Consolidated School. She graduated from Iowa State University in Ames in 1931 and taught home economics in the Farmersburg, Dolliver and Armstrong schools.

She was married to Lawrence Cayler on Sept. 20, 1939, at Winona and the couple lived at Spirit Lake for the first 10 years of their marriage. In 1941 they moved to the Monona area and later purchased a farm near Ossian, moving there in 1960.

She was a member of the ALCW and Farm Bureau Women.

Mrs. Cayler is survived by her husband, Lawrence; two brothers, Harold Aulerich, Monona, and Karl Aulerich, Newbury Park, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Corwin B. Keith, Estherville, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Anderson, Dolliver, returned home Monday from attending Mrs. Cayler’s funeral. Lawence Cayler is a brother of both Mrs. Keith and Mrs. Anderson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 6, 1979)
