Last Rites Held for Henry Goecke
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. today in St. Patrick’s Catholic church for Henry Goecke, 78, who died Saturday at 9:30 p.m. in the Holy Family hospital. Goecke, farmer and resident of this area for 43 years, had been confined to the hospital for about two days.

Mr. Goecke was born March 22, 1875, on a farm in Carroll county, Iowa. He lived in Carroll county until 1910 when he moved to Emmet county.

He was united in marriage to Sophia Walz on Jan. 15, 1901, at Carroll. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1940. One son, Melvin, also preceded him in death in World War II.

Surviving are three daughters, Alvina, at home; Agnes, Spencer; and Mrs. Clarence (Martha) McDonald, Scranton; and five sons, Vernon, Estherville; Arnold, Yuba City, Calif.; Harold, Fairbanks, Alaska; Leonard, Algona; and Raymond, Royal.

He also is survived by eight grandsons and eight granddaughters and two brothers, William, Spirit Lake and Joe, Carroll, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Otto, Carroll.

Burial was in St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery here. The rev. Father James H. Duhigg officiated at the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 12, 1953)
