Emmet county lost another prominent farmer in the death Tuesday[March 20, 1944] morning at the Holy Family hospital of G.L. Gorton where he had been taken a few days previous to his passing. His last illness was one of about three weeks.Born March 23, 1871 on a farm near Marion, Mr. Gorton came to Emmet county in 1894 and settled on the farm two miles southeast of Estherville which has remained his home since. He was married in 1901 to Miss Katherine Frank who survives him. Two daughters, Mrs. Ruth McDonald and Mrs. Floyd Schenck and several grandchildren also mourn the passing of this kindly family man and upright neighbor. One sister, Mrs. Charles Calkins lives at Vancouver, Wash.
Funeral services were held yesterday at 2 p.m. from the Gorton home and at 2:30 from the Methodist church of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Secil J. Seamans officiated. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 23, 1944)
