M.R. Tone Dead
A message was received here Monday [June 18, 1905] morning announcing the death of M.R. [Minor Rubertis] Tone at Boise City, Idaho, on Sunday evening at 5:30 o’clock. No details of his death are at hand but it is supposed that death came rather suddenly for a letter from him to a brother a few days ago made no mention of his being ill. For a long time he was in the barber business here and had been in Boise for the past few years where he owned and operated the finest barber shop in the city. His parents, a brother and a sister reside in Estherville. In this sad and sudden announcement to them they share the sincere sympathy of many friends. Taken Sick Friday and Died Sunday – Had $4,500 Life Insurance
Emil Koehler received a letter Friday from his brother, H.V. Koehler, who is now at Boise, Idaho, giving the particulars in regard to the death of Bert Tone which occurred at that place on Sunday, June 18th. He writes as follows:“Bert Tone died Sunday evening at 5:30. He was in his usual health until Friday afternoon when he was taken suddenly sick in his barber shop and had to be taken home in a hack. He went to bed and a doctor called but he gradually grew worse until he died. His death was caused by stomach trouble, an ailment from which he suffered since before he left Estherville. He had awful cramps. He was very popular here and had a host of friends and was well liked by everyone. I got to be very well acquainted with him and found him a very pleasant man. We were building a nice eight room house for him and had it nearly completed. We will finish it after the funeral which takes place Tuesday afternoon. I suppose his relatives in Estherville have been notified of his death but perhaps they have not particulars. He had $4,500 life insurance which leaves his family in very good circumstances.” (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 28, 1905)
W.L. Tone returned Wednesday from Boise, Idaho, where he had been called by the death of his brother, M.R. Tone. He did not arrive at Boise in time for the funeral. Interment was made at that place and Mrs. Tone [Estella Isabel Harmon Tone] will continue to reside there. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, July 5, 1905)
