MOVILLE, Iowa -- Mabel Ardella Carr, 98, of Moville passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Char Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa, where she had been a resident for 2 1/2 years.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Estherville, Iowa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.
Mabel A. Carr was born March 12, 1906, in Soudan, Minn., to Sherman and Myrtle (Davis) Elwood. The family moved to Montana in 1910, where her folks homesteaded. She graduated from Havre High School in 1925. During this time she worked for the Havre Daily News.
In 1944, she moved to Estherville, where she worked for the auditor and married George Carr of Estherville in February 1945. They farmed in the Estherville area, where Mabel worked for the Department of Human Services until her retirement in 1984. She then moved to the Moville area, where she lived with her son, Dr. Thomas Carr, and daughter-in-law, Linda. Here she attended the Lawton Presbyterian Church and volunteered at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Correctionville, Iowa.
Mabel enjoyed crocheting, making candy and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Dr. Thomas and Linda Carr of Moville; two stepsons and their wives, Dennis and Marilyn Carr of Monfort, Wis. and Harold and Pat Carr of Superior, Iowa; a stepdaughter and her husband, Delores and Vincent Taromina of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Lisa Carr of Sioux Falls, S.D., Laura and Pat Ryan of Des Moines, Iowa, Alicia and Jamey Bremer of Omaha, Neb. and Michael and Lynn Carr of Boone, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and a nephew and his wife, John and Carolyn Walz of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1967; her mother; father; sister, Rose; an infant brother; and two stepchildren. (Sioux City Journal, Sioux City, IA, January 22, 2005)
