Col. R. Case Ex-resident, Dies at 74
Col. Robert A. [Artel] Case, 74, Charles County, Md., former Estherville resident, died Saturday at Valley Forge Memorial Hospital in Valley Forge, Pa., after having been ill for a long time.Robert Case was born May 2, 1894, in Estherville to Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Case. He attended elementary and high schools here, graduating from Estherville High School in 1912.
He enlisted in the United States Army in May 1917 and took a medical discharge in 1947.
Mr. Case was married Aug. 16, 1924, to Emma Havens of Elmira, N.Y. After his retirement from the army, he and Mrs. Case lived in Charles County, Md., where he had been president of the library board for about 25 years; he was prominent in the Republican Party in Maryland.
He had been ill and hospitalized at Walter Reed Hospital since April, 1967. In August, 1968, he was transferred to the Valley Forge Hospital.
Col. Case is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Dick Frances Gorrell of Horsham, Pa.; as son Robert of North Olmsted, Conn., eight grandchildren, three brothers, Harold of Huntington, Calif., Ed of Belvedere, S.C., and Fred of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Maye of Estherville, Mrs. J.C. Zenovia Knudson of Corvallis, Ore. and Mrs. J.M. Henrietta Hoovel of Alpha, Minn.
Funeral services for Col. Case are to be held either Wednesday or Thursday with burial to be in the Memorial Cemetery at Valley Forge, Pa. Maye Case plans to leave Tuesday morning for Valley Forge. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 21, 1968)
