Aged Armstrong Pioneer Woman is Called
Mrs. Leota Moore died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Harry Harrison of Armstrong Sunday Oct 10 1943, after a short illness from leakage of the heart. She had not been well for some time, then took very ill with a severe heart attack on Friday at her home in Armstrong. On Monday she was moved to the Harry Harrison Home where her daughter could better care for her.
Funeral Services were held Friday with a short service at the Harrison Home followed by services in the Presbyterian Church. Burial was made in the family lot near her husband and son in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
Lennie Leota Brooks was born in Clarksville Butler Co Iowa May 20 1865. She came to Emmett co with her parents when seven years of age. She was married to Herbert Clarence Moore March 19 1883 and lived on a farm a mile from her parents for a year, then they moved to Wisconsin for two years on his mother's farm and ran a lime kiln. They returned to Iowa and settled on a farm of their own for near 30 years, which is now known as the Albert Reid farm. They moved from the farm to Halfa and built and operated the first store and post office in Halfa, Later they moved to Armstrong where they resided until the death of her husband in 1915. She and her son Otis, moved to Gruver for a year and on to Park Rapids, Minnesota, in 1920. There her son took sick and she took him to New Mexico for his health for a year, returning to Armstrong where she lived until her recent illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Moore were the parents of six children: Archie Luverne, who died in infancy; Amy Harrison of Armstrong; Otto Moore of Tacoma, Washington; Sylvia Heller of Maple Hill; Mary Weller of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Otis Moore who died in 1927. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, two brothers, Henry and Thomas, both of Armstrong, besides many other relatives and friends who mourn her loss. Her son, Otto, was unable to attend the funeral. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 21, 1943)
