Armstrong – Services for Roscoe [James] Mayne, 90, Armstrong, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong with the Rev. William Olmstead officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be observed by the Armstrong Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Mayne died Sunday, Dec. 11, 1983 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Armstrong after 3 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church one hour prior to services.

Mayne was born Aug. 28, 1893 at Bancroft the son of James and Mary (Smith) Mayne. He attended Ledyard High School. He served in the United States Army in France in World War One. On Nov. 24, 1920 he was united in marriage to Emma Steinberg at Algona. The couple farmed near Ledyard until 1928 when they moved to Swea City. They moved to farm east of Armstrong in 1932 where they lived until retirement except for one other year when they lived in Ledyard. They moved into Armstrong four years ago. His wife Emma died Nov. 28, 1981.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Wanda) Trenary, Armstrong; a son Orville Mayne, Armstrong; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.,

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 13, 1983)
