Had Resided at Armstrong 60 Years – Death Caused by Heart Disease
Mrs. C.B. Mathews, 84, a resident of Armstrong and vicinity for more than 60 years, passed away at her home here Monday noon of heart trouble. Mrs. Mathews was born in Springfield, Ill., March 8, 1851. Her husband died here in July, 1923; one son Dan also preceded his mother in death.The children living are Claude of Jamestown, N. D.; Mrs. Eva Akre of Algona; Mrs. Mary Dundas of New York; Geo. Thorp of Wisconsin; Martha Barton of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Nellie Moore of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Harriette Morgan of Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. C.B. Mathews, 83, died May 6, 1935, at her home here after a short illness from heart complications following the flu. She had lived here for nearly sixty-five years. She is survived by Mrs. Eva Akre, Algona; Mrs. Mary Dundas, Armstrong; Claude Mathews, Jamestown, S. Dak.; Mrs. Martha Marton [Barton], Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Nellie Moore, Seattle, Wash.; George Mathews, Thorpe, Wis.; and Mrs. Hattie Morgan, Chicago, Ill. One son, Dan Mathews, died in 1929. There are also thirty-two grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church last Friday afternoon with Rev. J. E. Clifton in charge. Burial was in the Armstrong Grove cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 15, 1935)
