Mr. Jim Lenox received word last week that his brother-in-law, Claude Mathews of Jamestown, N. Dal., had passed away and that they were bringing the body back to Armstrong, the home town for burial. Mrs. Edith Mathews, sister of Mr. Lenox and son of Jamestown, her mother, and two brothers of Wilmar, Minn., one brother of Montivideo, Minn., Miss Dorothy Lenox of Granite Falls, Minn., Elmer Lenox of Truman, Minn., were all here to attend the funeral. Mr. Mathews left nine children beside his wife, other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his passing. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 13, 1935)

Funeral services for Claude A. Mathews were held Tuesday of last week in the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. J.D. Wolcott of the Methodist church. Relatives and friends from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Claude Mathews and son, Wayne and Maynard Mathews, all of Jamestown, N. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Milo Mathews of Sherburn, Minn., Mrs. Thomas Akre of Algona; Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Phillips of Des Moines; Myron Mathews of Eau Claire, Wis.; Mrs. Mary Dundas of Chicago, Mrs. Martin Griese of Burt, Ross J. Dundas of New York; Mr. and Mrs. J. Lenox of Dolliver; Mrs. Lenox and daughter of Willmar, Minn.; Mrs. U.V. James of Estherville; Miss Nell Phillips of Fort Dodge and Albert Gyers, of Jamestown, N. Dak. The body of Claude Mathews of Jamestown, N. Dak., was brought to the James Lenox home east of town for funeral services and burial in the Armstrong cemetery last Tuesday. Widow of the decease Is the former Edith Lenox, sister of James Lenox. Mr. Mathew’s mother and two brothers of Wilmar, Minn., a brother from Montevidio, Minn., Miss Dorothy Lenox of Granite Falls, Minn., Elmer Lenox of Truman, Minn., and the widow and daughter of Jamestown, N. Dak., were present at the funeral services. Besides his widow Mr. Mathews is survived by nine children. The deceased formerly lived in this community where he has many friends.
