ALICE MARIE VOSTER

Alice Marie Voster, daughter of Willis and Blanche (Vaux) Speer was born May 14, 1919 in rural Mallard, Iowa. Alice passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 95.

She received her education in rural and Mallard Consolidated School graduating in 1936. She was employed in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office in Emmetsburg from 1938-1941.

In 1941 she was united in marriage to Lewis Voster. They farmed in the Curlew and Ringsted areas and moved to Estherville in February 1957. Alice was employed with Estherville Municipal Government Utilities office February 1957 until retirement September 1984. She also was employed as office assistant for Ken and Ruth Nelson d/b/a Villa Motel, Estherville and Oaks Motel in Spirit Lake from 1970-1986.

She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, E.L.C.W. and Mary Circle and R.S.V.P. Alice served on the Board of Directors at EMCO Credit Union for 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, being with family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved being outdoors, gardening and traveling with her sister, brother and his wife throughout most of the U.S.A. In her later years she looked forward to spending the winter with her daughter and son-in-law in Arizona. Alice was well known in the community with all of her volunteer work and home-baked goodies she loved to deliver to others. The family has many fond memories of Alice baking countless kringla and working at the church bazaar each fall.
Just last fall she helped peel apples for the pies that would be sold at the bazaar. She lived a wonderful life of faith, generosity, and kindness and was devoted to her work and community.

Left to cherish Alices’s memory are a daughter, Verdene (Nick) Kalianov of Tucson, AZ., and two sons, Dean (Linda) Voster of Mondamin, IA., Darlowe (Laura) Voster of Loveland, CO. Six grandchildren; David (Joan) Voster, Dan (Dindy) Voster, Jill (Tim) Bakke, Julie (David) Hoffmaster, Alyssa (Rob) Moffitt and Angie (Patrick) Hoffman. As well as twelve great-grandchildren; Jenna, Willem, Emma, Joshua, Joseph, Garrett, Abigail, Ashlyn, Sean, Dylan, Keaton, and Chloe. Alice is survived by one brother Myron (Gernie) Speer of Dandridge, TN. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was been preceded in death by her parents, husband, and by two sisters, Ruth and Harold Groth and Lois and Paul Wilson.

Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville, Iowa
