W. Jarvis Succumbs to Illness
On Sunday [September 25, 1904] evening last occurred the death of Walter S. Jarvis, for the past three or four years a resident of Estherville township, and in the sixty-seventh year of his age. The funeral was held from the home north of the city Tuesday afternoon and the services conducted by Rev. Heady of the First Baptist church and which were attended by a large number of the relatives and friends. For some time he had been in one of the city hospitals undergoing treatment and but little hope of his recovery was held out to him. Mr. Jarvis was one of the hard working farmers of the county and during the time he has made his home in this locality he has proven himself an industrious, kind and conscientious gentleman. He leaves a wife and family to whom sympathy in this dark and lonely hour is extended. His brother G.H. Jarvis and son-in-law Mr. Briggs have been with him during the last days and will accompany the remains to Maquoketa where burial will be made. Passes Away Sunday Evening After a Brief Illness
Walter Jarvis died last Sunday evening after a brief illness of a couple of weeks of Bright’s disease and complications, at the age of 67 years. The remains were taken to Maquoketa last evening, his former home, for interment. Mr. Jarvis had been in failing health for some time, although it was not until a couple of weeks ago that he became seriously ill. A son from California, a brother and sister from New York and a daughter and son-in-law from Iowa City, came here upon receipt of the sad news and accompanied the grief stricken wife with the remains to Maquoketa. The deceased was highly respected by all. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 28, 1904)
