Mrs. Madden Buried Thurs.
Esteemed Woman Lived at Halfa 28 Years
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Halfa Presbyterian church for Mrs. J. W. Madden who had passed away at her home there Tuesday. Rev. A.T. Bailey, pastor of the church was in charge. A short prayer service was held at the home prior to that at the church. The large attendance at the services were indicative of the high esteem in which Mrs. Madden was held in the community which had been her home for so many years.

Burial was made in the Armstrong cemetery by the side of her oldest daughter.

Bertha Elizabeth “Gracie” Burhow was born on September 24, 1867, in Germany. As a girl of 8 years she came to this country with her parents, living at Sumner. The couple went to Burt, where they lived for 2 years, moving from there to Whittemore, where they lived for 12 years. In addition also is a wide circle of relatives and a host of friends.
