Mrs. Lottie Miller, 47, for many years chief telephone operator at Armstrong died at that place on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Charlotte May Barnes, eldest daughter of Frank and Lauretta Barnes was born October 7, 1886, at Union, Iowa, and passed away Nov. 12, 1933 at Armstrong, aged 47 years 1 mon and 5 days. At the age of 7 she moved with her parents to Whitten, where she grew to womanhood. She received her education in the grade school there, later attended high school in Union and Ellsworth college in Iowa Falls. When a young girl she united with the Methodist church and retained her membership until her death.

She was united in marriage to Ralph J. Miller on May 2, 1907. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Lester Atwood and Frank J. Miller of Cedar Rapids.

The last 15 years of her life were spent in Armstrong, where she was chief telephone operator until poor health forced her to give up her work. Besides her two children, she is survived by her father and mother, three sisters, Mrs. Walter Long of Whitten, Mrs. Mark O. Waugh of Clarksville, Mrs. Albert G. Philipp of Hartley and two small grandchildren Patton and Jerry Atwood.

A short prayer service was held at the home here Monday afternoon. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Whitten Tuesday at one o’clock and burial made in the family lot at the Houser cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 14, 1933)
