Died – In this city, December 22, John W. Kline, of a long-standing illness.
John W. Kline passed away Dec. 22nd, 1894. He was born in Greene county, Wisconsin, March 3d, 1855, and came to Decorah, Iowa, in 1877 and in 1878 [August 12] was married to Miss Lizzie Hawk. To them were born four boys, one dying in his second year. Mr. Kline was baptized in 1870 in Waukon by Rev. Edridge of the First Baptist church. He united with the Christian church of this place three years ago. Although never in good health, yet he did not complain. He was confined to the house about ten weeks but was able to sit up most of the time. Besides his wife and boys, he left a sister, Mrs. Davis, in Greene county, Wis., a brother I.F. Kline of Winneshiek county and a sister, Mrs. Wagner of this place. He has gone to his long home from whence no one ever returns. He will never come to us, but God be thanked will go to him. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, December 27, 1894 / Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, December 27, 1894)

To all who were so kind during the sickness and death of our husband, father and brother, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks, and especially to Rev. Brown for the kind sermon. God only can reward you. – Mrs. Lizzie Kline and boys; Mr. and Mrs. Wagner

P.S. And may the choicest blessings from the casket of heaven be bestowed on my Sunday school class for the flowers and sympathy shown their teacher in this dark hour. – Mrs. Kline
