Funeral Rites Conducted for Mrs. Lauritzen

Funeral services for Mrs. Sofie Lauritzen were conducted Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. from Nazareth Lutheran church. Mrs. Lauritzen died Jan. 10 after several months of illness.

The Rev. H.E. Rasmussen conducted the services and music was provided by Mrs. Jen Welby, organist, Robert Monson and Harold Horswell, vocalists. Interment was made in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Sofie Lauritzen was born April 10, 1882, at Suste Koeding, Denmark. She was the daughter of Paul and Marie Schnoor. She came to America with her father at the age of nine, making their home with relatives at Clinton, Ia. A year later her mother, sister and brother also came to America. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In 1900 she came to Emmet county to visit relatives and decided to make her home at Ringsted.

On March 27, 1901, she was united in marriage to Nels Lauritzen at St. John’s Lutheran church at Ringsted. This young couple started their life’s journey together farming the Lauritzen homestead near Ringsted, later moving to Fenton and then to the Seneca community.

She was devoted to her husband who was an invalid for nine years, passing away April 20, 1944, and to her son, who was stricken with polio in 1930.

Mrs. Lauritzen was the mother of four children, Lorine, Verna, Emma and Ernest. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran church of Armstrong and the Royal Neighbor and Rebekah lodges.

On Oct. 29, 1951, she underwent major surgery at Holy Family hospital at Estherville and never regained her strength.

Four children survive, Mrs. Adolph Anderson (Lorine), Mrs. Arnold Gaarde (Emma) and Ernest of Armstrong, and Mrs. Wendell Jensen (Verna) of Algona; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John Jensen and Mrs. Victor Sorensen of Ringsted, and two brothers, John Schnoor of Pontiac, Ill., and Anton Schnoor of Kempton, Ill.
