Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, April 22, for Nels Lauritzen, 69m at the Nazareth Lutheran church in Armstrong. He died at his home after being bedfast for 9 years as a result of a stroke while living in Ringsted.Nels Lauritzen was born May 4, 1874, at Clinton. In 1882, at the age of 8, he moved to Emmet county with his parents and lived on a farm southeast of Ringsted where he spent most of his childhood days.
March 27, 1907, he was married to Sophie Schnoor at the St. John’s Lutheran church at Ringsted. They started farming on the home farm and later lived 15 years near Seneca.
In 1928 they moved to Ringsted where he was employed by the Emmet county highway commission, until he suffered a paralytic stroke. In the summer of 1935 the family moved to Armstrong, where they have since resided.
He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Verna Jensen of Algona, Mrs. Lorine Anderson and Mrs. Emma Gaarde, and seven grandchildren. One grandson, Gordon Anderson, is serving in the armed forces. He also has two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. David J. Quill, and interment was in the Armstrong Grove cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 29, 1944)
