Obituary for Cecil Langerman

Cecil William Fred Langerman, the son of Fred and Amanda (Eimers) Langerman, was born April 3, 1921 at Fenton, Iowa. He departed this life on Friday, April 29, 2005 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong at the age of 84 years and 26 days.

The family moved to the Swea City area in 1923 where Cecil grew up on the family farm. He received his initial education in the country school system and subsequently graduated from Ledyard High School. His career aspirations in farming were cut short after high school when he was called to service in World War II. Cecil served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 with the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Shortly after D-Day in 1944, the 818th was attached to the 3rd Army under the command of General Patton in the European theater. Cecil participated in European campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes, which was better known as the Battle of the Bulge.

Upon Cecil's return from the service, he was united in marriage to Vivian Madden in Halfa, Iowa on August 20, 1946. After their marriage, the couple farmed and raised livestock in the Ringsted area, and Vivian also taught in the Fenton school system. He was an avid card player, hunter, trapper, and fisherman. Cecil served several years on the ASCS Emmet County Committee. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ringsted American Legion Post 582, and the V.F.W.

Left to cherish Cecil's memory are his wife, Vivian, of Ringsted, Iowa; two children, Marsha Loewenberg and her husband, Terry, of Oakdale, Connecticut; Mark Langerman and his wife, Erika, of Fairfax, Virginia; five grandchildren, Jessica Warner Stites of Brooklyn, NY; Chris Warner of Canberra, Australia; Michael, Megan and Melissa Langerman of Fairfax, Virginia; and his brother, Marcus Langerman, and his wife, Kathryn, of Fairmont, Minnesota. He has been preceded in death by his parents.
