Mrs. Kingston, 81, Dies After Long Illness

Funeral services for Mrs. H.A. Kingston, 81, were held from the First Presbyterian church Wednesday, March 7, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Russell P. Nelson was in charge of the services and music was furnished by Mrs. C.L. Smith, Pianist, and Mrs. Clifford Henrikson, vocalist. Interment was made in Powhatan [Armstrong Grove] cemetery.Mrs. Kingston, a long time resident of this community died Sunday evening, March 4, at the Morton Convalescent Home in Fairmont after a lingering illness.
Amy Elizabeth Howell, the daughter of John and Sarah Howell, was born Jan. 21, 1870, [per cemetery records 1871] in Sturton-by-Stowe, Lincolnshire, England. At the age of 11 she came to the United States with her parents, locating at Des Plaines, Ill. In 1885 they came to farm the land they had purchased, located on the south shore of Iowa Lake. There she resided until her marriage to Herbert A. Kingston March 14, 1894.
To this union were born three children who survive her. They are Mrs. S.M. Gladston (Amy) and Mrs. W.A. Belou (Ruth) of Fairmont and John D. Kingston of Armstrong. There are also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also a brother, Frank Howell, of Wichita, Kans., who survives her. Mr. Kingston preceded her in death in March, 1932 [1933].
Mrs. Kingston was a lifelong member of the local Presbyterian church in which she was very active until her health failed. She was also a charter member of the Wednesday club and of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 17, 1951)
