Miss Stephenson, 90, Dies at Lilley Home
Miss Anna Stephenson, 90, succumbed to the infirmities of old age at 8 p.m. last night at the John Lilley home. Miss Stephenson has made her home with the Lilley’s for three and one half years. She formerly lived here with her nephew, Guy Wilder, until he moved to Des Moines.

Previous to coming here 12 years ago, she had made her home with Wilder’s parents in Sandwich, Ill.

Miss Stephenson was born August 11, 1858, in Harrisburg, Pa., and moved with her family to Sandwich, at an early date. She received her education in the Sandwich public schools and was employed there as a dress maker for many years. She had retired from her vocation before coming to Estherville.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Besides Wilder, she is survived by three other nephews, Harry Stephenson of Chicago, Lloyd and Fred Stephenson of Aurora, Ill., and a niece, Mrs. Mable Roberts of Fargo, Mich. The Lilleys are not relatives of the deceased. [John Lilley’s first wife was Sadie Kesslar Lilley, niece of Anna Stephenson, her mother’s sister.]

One service will be held in the Sternborg funeral chapel, 2 p.m. tomorrow and another Monday in Sandwich, burial in the Sandwich cemetery. Officials for the services have not yet been announced. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 29, 1948)
