Victim of the “White Plague”
Parkersburg, Oct. 19 – (Special) – A telegram received here this morning from southern New Mexico brought the news of the death of Bert H. Knipe, son of J.M. Knipe. He was 33 years of age and married. The disease that caused his death was the dreaded “white plague” with which he had been suffering for some time.In the hope that the change of climate might benefit his health Mr. Knipe moved to New Mexico about a year ago, but the disease had progressed too far for cure by the sahtary [?} climate and dry, bracing air.
For some time Mr. Knipe was traveling salesman for Iblings & Co. of Waterloo, wholesale dealers in neckties, etc.
Deceased was a young man who commanded the esteem of all of his acquaintances and the news of his untimely death is received with much sorrow. The remains will be brought back here for interment. (Waterloo Semi-Weekly Courier, Waterloo, IA, October 23, 1906)
