Services for Mrs. Opsal
Funeral services were held from Nazareth Lutheran church Monday, Jan. 16, for Mrs. Mary Opsal, who passed away at her home here Thursday, Jan. 12. The Rev. Harry C. Molstre, former pastor of the church was in charge of services. Interment was in Armstrong Grove cemetery.Mary Odelia Johnson was born June 9, 1882, in Shelby county, Iowa. She was the daughter of Martha and Ole Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Dec. 4, 1899 she was united in marriage to Ole Opsal at Kirkman, Ia., and the following spring they moved to a farm near Armstrong in which vicinity they lived until the death of Mr. Opsal Feb. 7, 1942. She has made her home in Armstrong since that time.
Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Opsal, two of whom preceded her in death: Sadia, at the age of nine months, and Mrs. Mable Askeland, who passed away last October.
Survivors include her children, Mrs. Elmer Fretty, Dexter, Minn.; Mrs. Richard Snyder, Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Duane Widdel, Fenton, Ia.; Virgil, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Richard Krumm, Otis, Orville and Theodore, all of Armstrong; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Bertha Nordby of Butterfield; five brothers, Casper and George Johnson of Willmar, Minn.; Gerhard of Cylinder; Joe and Oscar of Armstrong.
