Joseph Johnson Dies
Joseph (Ed) Johnson, 79, S. 12th St., died at Holy Family hospital at 4:30 a.m. today. Arrangements are pending at Reese Funeral Home. He is survived by a son, Lavern Johnson of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 2, 1964)

Johnson Rites Set
Last rites for Joseph (Ed) Johnson, 79, Estherville, who died Thursday morning at Holy Family Hospital, will be held Monday at Estherville Lutheran Church with a family service at 1:30 p.m. and a public service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven.

Friends may call at Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Sunday until noon Monday when the casket will be taken to the church. It will not be opened following services.

Mr. Johnson had been in failing health for the past year and death is attributed to complications of advanced age.

He was born March 10, 1885 at Badger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson. He received his education at Terril.

Mr. Johnson was married to Mabel Platter on Nov. 23, 1917 at Emmetsburg. The Johnsons farmed near Terril until 1933. They moved to Estherville in1936 where Mr. Johnson worked for the city until his retirement in 1953.

He is a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Lavern of Estherville, three grandchildren, one brother, Oscar of Mason City and four sisters, Mrs. Jesse Sampson of Mason City, Mrs. Martin Christiansen of Kenmere, N.D., Mrs. Anna Hanson of Mason City and Mrs. Elmer Zenor of Terril.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 3, 1964)
