Armstrong – Mrs. Sadie Johnson, 85, Armstrong, died Friday [August 10, 1979] at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Services for Mrs. Johnson were held Monday morning at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Donald Sarff officiating. Interment was in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, was in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hadla Askeland, she was born Jan. 29, 1894, in Sheridan, Ill., and attended rural schools in the Sheridan area. She moved with her family to the Swea City area and was married to Gerhard Johnson on Jan. 21, 1914, at Armstrong.

The couple farmed in the Armstrong area until 1934 and then moved to Cylinder, where Mr. Johnson operated a service station and Mrs. Johnson drove a school bus for the Cylinder school system. The couple moved back to Armstrong after retiring and Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of the Valley ue Nursing Home for the past five years. She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Marjorie) Solberg, Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. Bill (Harriet) Fries, Armstrong, and Verlaine Johnson, LuVerne; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one brother, Lyle Akseland, Griswold.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 13, 1979)
