Armstrong – Services for Clarence Johnson, 84, of Des Moines, formerly of the Armstrong and Dolliver areas, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Nazareth Lutheran Church with Pastor Donohue Sarff officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He died Wednesday, May 23, 1990 at his daughter’s home in Des Moines. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 24, 1905 at rural Armstrong, the son of Thomas and Caroline Johnson and attended rural schools. On Dec. 27, 1927 he married Bertha Athey at Estherville. They farmed near Iowa Lake and east of Dolliver many years. The couple lived in Ellsworth until his wife’s death in December, 1974. He married Vallie Ahrens and she died Feb. 4, 1988 in Des Moines where he has made his home since. He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Rita) Thiel, Des Moines; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives; an infant daughter; parents and six brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 26, 1990)
