Mrs. T.R. Johnson, 85, Dies Here
Mrs. T.R. (Caroline) Johnson, 85, Armstrong, died yesterday evening at Holy Family Hospital here. She had been in failing health for the past few years.Mrs. Johnson, nee Caroline Johnson, was born April 30, 1872 in Oslo, Norway. She came to America at the age of 16 to join some of her brothers and sisters in Shelby county. On July 26, 1893 she was married to T.R. Johnson at Audubon. The couple farmed in that community until 1901 when they moved to a farm near Armstrong.
They farmed near Armstrong until 1939 when they retired and moved to Armstrong. Mrs. Johnson had been living at the Good Samaritan Home since last February.
Survivors are three son, Thomas Jr., of Lime Springs, Clarence of Dolliver, Ernest of Armstrong; one foster daughter, Mrs. Helen Boyd, Detroit, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and one brother, Jim Johnson of Fort Dodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four sons, Randolph, Joseph, Carl and Randy; four brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
Plans for the funeral had not yet been completed but are tentatively set for Friday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Complete plans will be announced in tomorrow’s Daily News. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 12, 1957)
Rites to Be Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. T.R. Johnson of Armstrong, who died Monday evening at Holy Family Hospital, will be held at 2:00 Friday afternoon at the Nazareth Church in Armstrong. The Rev. Harlan Blockhus will officiate. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
