Armstrong Boy Dies of Stroke; Funeral Friday
Armstrong, Ia., Nov. 4 – Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Friday afternoon for Carl Johnson, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Johnson. Carl [Joseph] Johnson was born Dec. 22, 1910, on a farm near Armstrong, and passed away Wednesday afternoon Oct. 30, following a second stroke of paralysis. He has lived here all of his life, attending the Armstrong school and later assisting on his father’s farm. Besides his parents, he is survived by 4 brothers, Thos. Jr., Randolph, Ernest and Clarence, all residents of this vicinity. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 6, 1929)

Carl Johnson of Armstrong Dies Suddenly
Armstrong (Journal) – Carl Johnson, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Johnson, Sr., passed away at the home of his parents Wednesday [October 30, 1929] noon, following a paralytic stroke. Two weeks ago he suffered a stroke while going to the field to work and the left side of his body had been paralyzed since that time. The second stroke, Wednesday noon, caused his death almost instantly.

Carl Johnson was born Dec. 22, 1910, near Armstrong, and has lived all his life in this community. He attended the Armstrong high school for a while and since leaving school had been assisting with the work on his father’s farm. He is survived by his parents, and four brothers, Randolph, Thos., Jr., Ernest, and Clarence, all residents of this vicinity.

Funeral services were being held at the home and at the Lutheran church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.T. Lundy. Burial was in the Armstrong Grove cemetery. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, November 7, 1929)
