Mrs. E. [Eliza Haining] Southwell, mother of the Methodist minister of this place, passed away from earthly toil to heavenly reward January 29th, at 5:15 p.m., aged 77 years. Mrs. Southwell was born in England. Immigrating to this country in early womanhood, she became a resident of Marquette county, Wis., where she raised a large family of children, of whom six sons and four daughters remain to mourn their loss. Eight of the ten children living were permitted to attend the funeral which took place at Cherokee, Iowa, Jan. 31. Converted at the age of 14 years, unwavering faith, deep devotion, and constant activity in the services of her lord were the distinguishing characteristics of this noble life.
