Mrs. Gibbons of Armstrong, 58, Dies at Iowa City
Mrs. Cora Frances Gibbons, 58, a longtime resident of Armstrong, died yesterday at Iowa City where she had been for several months undergoing treatment for an ailment. She had been in ill health for several months.Born Nov. 1, 1895, at Forest City, she moved to Armstrong at an early age with her family. Mrs. Gibbons had been employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at the Iowa Electric Light and Power company at Armstrong for almost 25 years at the time of her death.
Mrs. Gibbons was preceded in death by her husband and father, Ollie Lytle. She is also survived by a son, Lloyd, of Armstrong; a grandson, James; her mother, Mrs. Ollie Lytle of Armstrong; three sisters, Mrs. Nona Link of Thompson, Mrs. George W. Peterson and Mrs. Arnold Flier, both of Armstrong.
Services are pending word from relatives at a distance. They will be in the Methodist church at Armstrong with the Rev. S.E. Plovina of Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 20, 1953)
Last Rites for Mrs. Gibbons
Last rites for Mrs. Cora Gibbons, 57, were held Wednesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist church at Armstrong with the Rev. S.E. Polovina officiating. Burial was made in Armstrong Grove cemetery.Cora Frances Gibbons, daughter of George and Olive Lytle, was born Nov. 1, 1895, in Forest City and died, July 19, following several months of illness. During those months she spent most of the time in Iowa City, where every care that medical science could give was administered. She had reached the age of 57 years, 10 months and 11 days.
Her parents moved to Armstrong in March, 1898. She received her education in the Armstrong school and attended business college at Sioux Falls, S.D.
In 1914, she was united in marriage to Roy Gibbons. To this union one son, Lloyd, was born. She made her home in Spirit Lake for 13 years and then moved to Armstrong. At the time of her death, she had been employed for nearly 25 years by the Iowa Electric Light and Power company as a secretary.
She joined the Methodist church at an early age and was a faithful member. For many years she taught a class of young boys and girls in the Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her father, who passed away in 1928.
Surviving her death are her son, Lloyd; one grandson, Jimmy; her mother, Mrs. Olive Lytle; three sisters, Mrs. Nona Link of Thompson, Mrs. George W. Peterson and Mrs. Arnold Flier, both of Armstrong, and two nephews, Robert and William Peterson, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
