J.J. Felkey Came to Emmet County in 1872
Jesse James Felkey, 81, a long-time resident of this community was buried here Wednesday afternoon, July 11. He passed away July 8 at Kenosha, Wis. after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were conducted from the Armstrong First Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock. The rev. Thomas G. Melton of Estherville officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. C.I. Smith, pianist, and Mrs. Clifford Henricksen, solist. Burial was in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Jesse James Felkey, oldest son of George and Mary Felkey, was born Dec. 9, 1870, at Osage, Ia. The family moved to Emmet county when he was two years old. Most of his life was spent as a farmer in Emmet county.

On July 1, 1901, he was united in marriage to Jennie Davis of Estherville. To this union five children were born. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Flier of Amery, Wis.; two sons, Merle of Kenosha, Wis., and Harland of Graettinger, Ia.; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. C.N. Peterson of Armstrong, and one brother, Elmer, of Estherville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Worth, and one daughter, Mildred, who died in infancy, two sisters, Mrs. F.M. Goldsberry and Mrs. Isabel Peterson and one brother, John, and also a son, George, by a previous marriage.

He was a member of the Halfa Presbyterian church. On July 1 of this year Mr. and Mrs. Felkey observed their Golden Wedding anniversary. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 30, 1951)
