Armstrong - Carrie Rebecca Godfrey, daughter of Samuel and Matilda Godfrey, was born October 28, 1854, in Rock County, Wisconsin, and died in Armstrong July 8, 1933, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Harvey J. Felkey on January 1, 1872. To this union four children were born, one of whom died in infancy. A daughter, Leila, Mrs. Claude Matthews, died February, 1916. Those left to mourn her loss, her son, Roy B. Felkey, and her daughter, Mrs. J.V. Burkhead, both of Armstrong. There are also several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The husband died in 1917. Ms. Felkey was an earnest Christian woman and one whose influence was felt in the community in which she lived. Funeral services wre held at the Presbyterian Church July 10, Arthur T. Bailey, student pastor, officiating. Miss Margaret Vandenburgh sang, “Face to Face,” and “Lead Kindly Light.” Burial was made in the Armstrong cemetery. Armstrong – Marion Felkey, of Wells, Minn., was here last week to attend the funeral of his aunt, Mrs. Harvey Felkey. Other out of town relatives were Claude Mathews and three sons from North Dakota. Many friends from other towns were here also, among them being Mr. and Mrs. Christian from Estherville, Mrs. Oscar Christensen and Mrs. Henry Olson of Ringsted, Mrs. Ruth Bellu from Fairmont. Well Known Woman Dies
Mrs. Harvey Felkey Buried Monday at Armstrong
Mrs. Harvey Felkey, one of the most prominent women of Armstrong died Saturday, July 8, at the home of her daughter Mrs. J.V. Burkhead at that place.

Mrs. Felkey was very active in the affairs of the community in which she had resided for 60 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian church there for 37 years. For a number of years she was a teacher in the Sunday school and for the last several years she had been a trustee of the church. She had also served faithfully in the ladies league. Mrs. Felkey has been a member of Emmet County O.E.S. since 1904 and was worthy matron in 1908. She had been treasurer of the chapter since 1924.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Armstrong Monday afternoon at two o’clock. Mr. Arthur Bailey, student pastor officiated. Miss Margaraet Vandenburg sang “Face to Face” and “Lead Kindly Light.” Mrs. Felkey was laid to rest in the Armstrong cemetery beside her husband.

She was a daughter of Samuel and Matilda Godfrey was born on October 28, 1854 in Rock county, Wis., and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.V. Burkhead in Armstrong at 1 p.m. July 8, 1933, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was one of a family of ten children, 3 boys and 7 girls. One brother, Robert Godfrey of Osage alone survives her. When she was about 13 years of age she moved with her parents from Wisconsin to Mitchell county, Iowa, where she resided for the next few years.

On January 1, 1872 she was married to Harry J. Felkey. Four children were born, one of whom died in infancy. A daughter, Leila (Mrs. Claude Matthews) passed away in February, 1916. Mrs. Felkey leaves to mourn her loss, her son Roy B. and daughter, Mrs. J. V. Burkhead, both of Armstrong. There are eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends by whom she will be greatly missed.

In 1873 Mr. and Mrs. Felkey moved from Mitchell county to Emmet county and settled on a farm about 5 miles northwest of the present site of Armstrong. Here they as pioneers can understand. The lonliness, the privations, the blizzards, the grasshoppers were all known to them.

With her husband Mrs. Felkey made a home in this new country and together they builded well. In 1899 they left the farm and moved to Armstrong. Here in April, 1917 her husband passed away. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter. The last few months she has suffered intensely and death came as a blessed relief.
