Burke, VA – Funeral services for Susan Neppl Bruner, 53, were held in Burke, Va., and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. She died on Saturday, July 29 at North Virginia Community Hospital in Burke.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1947 in Sioux City and was the adopted daughter of the late Isidore Neppl and Maxine [Truesdell] Neppl Leonard.

She began her education in the Dolliver schools, graduating from Lincoln Central High School. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing of Sioux City in 1968 and immediately joined the Army Nurse Corp, serving at De Nitt General Hospital in Virginia.

She attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After her discharge, she worked at hospitals in Sioux City and Denver, Colo.

She was united in marriage on April 4, 1970 to George A. Bruner at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville.

She loved her family, helping others and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, George of Burke; two sons, James and his wife, Pam of Grand Forks, N.D. and Timothy of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Stacy of Arlington, Va. And Jane of Burke; mother, Maxine Leonard of Estherville; brother, Leon Neppl of Lewisville, Minn.; one granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA,August, 2000)
