Armstrong Man Killed in Fall
Armstrong – Harvey Eckholm, 65, Armstrong, died Saturday [April 1, 1967] about 9:30 a.m. after he fell 40 feet from a ladder as he was operating a corn dryer at Cargill Incorporated in Armstrong.

Melvin Brown, an Armstrong trucker, found Mr. Eckholm on the floor by the dryer. Dr. R. M. Turner was called and pronounced him dead of a skull fracture.

Mr. Eckholm was born Oct. 15, 1901 at Seneca to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Eckholm. He received his education at Seneca and Swea City, where the family lived before moving to Armstrong.

He was married Jan. 2, 1926, to Loretta Mitchell of Armstrong. They have lived in Armstrong sine their marriage. Mr. Eckholm was a truck driver and worked as a mill operator for 20 years for the Quaker Oats Elevator Co. of Armstrong which recently transferred ownership to Cargill.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sylvia) Clabaugh of Sherburn, Minn., Mrs. Jack (Velma) Weir of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Duane (Marlene) Latham of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. Mark (LaVonne) Finnestad of St. Paul, Minn.; one son, Marvin of Williamsburg; his mother, Mrs. Helen Eckholm of Armstrong; 21 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nick Burgess of Armstrong; and one brother, Valdon, of Armstrong.

Rev. Willard Madden of the Free Methodist Church in Armstrong will conduct services in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. The Reese-Slaba Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 3, 1967)
