On Thursday night, May 4, 1911, Mrs. Mary [Martha Mook] Eckhart, an aged and highly respected resident of this township, passed from time to eternity, incidental to the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Eckhart was born in Germany, Feb. 7, 1831, and died at the home of her son, George and wife, May 4th, 1911, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 27 days. Many years ago she came to Lee county, Ill., where she was united in marriage to her husband, who died in 1876. To this union were born eleven children, eight of whom survive the mother. They are Adam, of Clarinda; John, of Franklin Grove, Ill.; Henry, of Dysart, Iowa, and Chris, George, Will, Martin, and one daughter, Mrs. T.F. Laffey, all living near Dolliver. In 1870 she came to Iowa and resided near Dysart, Iowa, and in 1892 she came to Emmet County where she resided until death.
At an early age she embraced the Evangelical faith and was a consistent Christian until death. She was a good woman – more can be said of no one. The funeral was held on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the late home and interment made at Armstrong. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 10, 1911)
