Ex-Armstrong Farmer Dies
Armstrong – Toralf Tomassen (Tom) Dale, 59, former Armstrong farmer, died at 10:45 a.m. yesterday at his home in Owatonna, Minn., of a heart ailment. He had suffered from the ailment for several years.Mr. Dale was born Aug. 7, 1893 [per MN death index, September 7] at Oslo, Norway, the son of Joe and Josephine [Johnson] Tomassen. He received his education in Norway and came to this country when he was 19 with Jurgen Hanson. Mr. Dale settled in Armstrong and was at first a farmhand and then farmed the Bonnie Brae farm a mile and a half south of Armstrong. In 1948 he moved to a farm at Blooming Prairie, Minn., and three years ago retired and moved to Owatonna, Minn.
Mr. Dale is survived by his widow, four sons, Merritt of Armstrong, Kenneth of Sarasota, Fla., Donald of Bixby, Minn., and Dennis of Owatonna; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Kephart of Las Cruces, N.m.; Mrs. Herbert (Ella) Enzenavar of Owatonna and Jean at home; two sisters, Betty Anderson of Oslo, Norway and Astrid Syverson of Enedakk, Norway; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Armstrong with the Rev. Bernard Nagel officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home from Tuesday afternoon until time of services Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 25, 1963)
