Estherville – Funeral Services for Carmey M. [Mildred] Conn, 100, of Estherville are today, March 17, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Estherville. Interment followed at Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong with Pastor Steve Britton officiating. Visitation was held Wednesday evening at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Carmey Mitchell, the daughter of John and Ida (Burgess) Mitchell, was born September 26, 1904, [per SS Death Index, November 26, 1903]in Hardin County, Ill. She passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

She received her education in rural county schools.

In 1926 Carmey was united in marriage to Daniel Conn. Following their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in the Armstrong area. Later they moved to Sherburn, Minn. and Carmey was employed in the local café. Then the family moved to Estherville where she was employed in various jobs. Carmey was known as a good cook and loved baking. She enjoyed doing embroidery in her leisure time. Carmey especially enjoyed spending time with her family and really enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel died in 1985.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Carmey’s memory are, one son, Vurley Conn and his wife, Marlene of St. James, Minn.; two daughters, Melba Haffey of Windom, Minn.; Betty Steen of Estherville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Polly Marker of Sherburn, Minn.

Preceding Carmey in death were her husband; one daughter; two sons; one grandson; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 17, 2005)
