T. Clayton, Dolliver, Dead at 78
Thomas Clayton, 78, of Dolliver, died Tuesday [August 27, 1968] at 11:45 a.m. at the Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer. His death was attributed to complications of a stroke. He had been in failing health for about a year and a half.

He was born April 18, 1890, at Van Meter, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clayton, and received his education in the Van Meter schools.

Thomas Clayton and Agnes DePew [DePue] were married February, 1912, and after their marriage the couple farmed near Ruthven until 1920 when they moved to South Dakota. They returned to Iowa in 1933 and famed in the Dolliver-Armstrong area until 1956, when Mr. Clayton retired and moved into Dolliver. Mrs. Clayton died Sept. 1, 1956.

He was later married Oct. 22, 1962, to Viola Shouse at Des Moines.

Mr. Clayton was a member of the Dolliver Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Viola; a son, Loren Clayton of Armstrong; a stepson, Robert Shouse of Des Moines; three grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Dolliver Methodist Church, Rev. Travis Canaday officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong anytime after 7 p.m. today until noon Friday when the body will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 28, 1968)
