Mrs. Cheever of Armstrong Dies at Home
Mrs. Ellen [Maud] Cheever, 80, longtime resident of Armstrong, died at her home 1 a.m. today. She had been ill for a number of years suffering from a heart condition.

She was born Ellen Babcock, May 14, 1868 in Clarksville and received her education in the Clarksville public schools. She later married John Cheever, also of Clarksville, and the couple farmed near there for a few years before moving to a farm near Armstrong more than 40 years ago.

The couple retired from farming and moved to Armstrong in 1924. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and affiliated with the Royal Neighbor lodge.

She is survived by one son, Lindon Cheever of Milwaukee, one daughter, Laura, at home; four brothers, Ed Babcock of Van Nuys, Calif.; Matt of Seattle, Charles of Pony, Mont., and Clyde of Allison. Her husband, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services have not yet been arranged. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 8, 1948)

The Estherville Enterprise adds on November 11, 1948:
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on Wednesday, November 10, 1948 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Russell P. Nelson officiating. Interment in the Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Note: some records show her name as “Ella”
