Fairmont Soldier Killed in Vietnam
Washington (AP) – A Minnesota Army man was among 47 U.S. servicemen reported killed in action Monday by the Defense Department.

Pfc. Edwin E. Carson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred A. Carson of rural Fairmont. (Winona Daily News, Winona, MN, October 29, 1968)

Rites for Victim of Viet War
Armstrong – Funeral services for Army Private First Class Edwin E. [Everett] Carson, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Carson, rural Fairmont, are to be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Rev. Willard Madden of the Free Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. He was a former Armstrong resident.

Pfc. Carson was killed Oct. 21 north of Saigon in enemy territory, having been in Vietnam less than six months.

Pfc. Carson attended the Armstrong grade and junior high schools. He graduated from Fairmont High School’s class of 1967.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Todd; and two sisters, Melissa, all at home, and Mrs. Patricia Niewing of Fairmont; and grandparents, Mrs. Hulda Lemke of Fairmont, E.E. Carson, resident of Balmer Nursing Home in Estherville, and Mrs. Addie Mae Carson of mesa, Ariz.
