Early Settler of Near Armstrong Passes Wednesday
Mrs. Helen Augusta Canon, 73, passed away Wednesday [October 21, 1931] in her home in Armstrong. She suffered a stroke on Tuesday, after only a short illness and did not regain consciousness. She had however, been in failing health for some time.

Mrs. Cannon, who is one of the pioneer settlers of the county, is survived by three sons, Ben and Fred of Armstrong and the Rev. Charles Cannon of Springfield, Ill., and one daughter Mrs. B.V. Miller of Armstrong. Mr. Cannon died 18 years ago.

Mrs. Canon was born in Springfield, Ill. in December, [29] 1857 and came to Emmet county with her parents as a child of twelve.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. Cooke of the Free Methodist church at Estherville officiating, assisted by the Rev. C.B. Mitchell of the Armstrong Methodist church.

Guy Shirley, L. Shirley, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Pugsley of Elmore, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Canon and family of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Queen Canon of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Agnes Canfield and Neil Canon attended the funeral of Mrs. Canon Friday.
