Armstrong Man Killed Working On High Line
Arnold Burgess of Armstrong, an employee of Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. was killed shortly before noon when he came into contact with a high line wire while at work.According to information the accident a happened about 11:30 when Burgess was working on a high line transformer near the state line north of Dolliver. Joe Laffey, working with Burgess, got him down from the high line and applied artificial respiration but to no avail.
Burgess, about 23, had returned from service only a few months ago. He lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burgess of near Armstrong. A brother, Gilbert Burgess lives in Estherville, and another brother is serving with the armed forces in the European theater. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 28, 1956)
Burgess Rites on Saturday
Military funeral services for Arnold Burgess, 25, who was killed about 11:30 a.m. yesterday when he came in contact with a high line wire, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Methodist church in Armstrong, the Rev. S.E. Polovina officiating. Burial will be at the Armstrong cemetery.The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burgess of rural Armstrong, Arnold Burgess was born May 21, 1930. A graduate of Armstrong high school in 1949, Arnold was employed at the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co., prior to his entering the armed forces in August, 1951. He was released from service in August, 1955 and two months later began working again for the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co.
Survivors in addition to his parents include four brothers and four sisters, Gilbert of Estherville, LeRoy who is serving with the armed forces in the European theater, Delbert and Byrl, both of Armstrong, Mrs. Arnold Skog of Windom, Minn., Mrs. William Woody of Des Moines, Mrs. Ervin Loewenberg of Ringsted and Donna Burgess at home.
