Funeral Rites For Roy Bunt

Edward Roy Bunt, son of Reuben and Margaret Bunt was born in Armstrong Sept. 29, 1909. Roy, as he was called by everyone who knew him, graduated from Armstrong high school in 1928. He joined the army June 10, 1942 and served in the Southern Philippines and Western Pacific areas. He was discharged from the army Dec. 30, 1945.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Reuben, who passed away in Nov., 1938. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Bunt; one sister, Mrs. Arnold Sorenson; one niece and one nephew, Louise and Larry Sorenson.

He was employed approximately 15 years by the Central States Electric company and it was while at work Wednesday, Oct. 3, on a high voltage power line near Wallingford that he was fatally injured.

Funeral service were held Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist church. The Rev. S.E. Polovina was in charge of services. Full military honors were observed at the graveside by members of Welby-Johnson V.F.W. post No. 5232. Interment was in Armstrong Grove cemetery. Armstrong, Ia. Lineman is Electrocuted

Roy Bunt of Armstrong, Ia., lineman employed by the Iowa Electric Light & Power Co., was electrocuted about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon as he worked on a 6,600-volt power line at Wallingford, six miles south of Estherville.

Other members of the crew with whom Bunt was working said a arc of electricity flashed as one of Bunt's arms made contact with the power line as he worked alone atop a high pole. He slumped against his safety belt, killed almost instantly. The body was brought down from the pole by other members of the crew, including Lloyd Gibbons and Warren Lassey.

Bunt had been employed by the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co., for over 15 years.

A bachelor, he had been living with his mother, Mrs. Marguerite Bunt, in Armstrong. His mother, and a sister, Mrs. Arnold Sorenson, also of Armstrong, are survivors.

The victim was a veteran of extensive military service in World War II, including foreign service. He was a member of the Armstrong Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
