It will be of interest to many in this community to know that Grandma Bravender who was one of the pioneer settlers around Armstrong passed away at her home in Armstrong Thursday morning. The funeral services were to have been held Saturday afternoon, but on account of relatives coming from a distance the funeral will be held at the Methodist church next Tuesday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. Alonzo Pruitt, the pastor of the church. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 14, 1912)

She was born in Yorkshire, England and came to Canada when but three years of age and in 1848 she was united in marriage to Mr. Luke Bravender, who preceded her to his glory five years ago. Grandma Bravender Dead
Thursday morning , February 1st, at her home in Armstrong Mrs. Jane Clark Bravender passed from time to Eternity at the ripe old age of 90 years 16 days.

She was born in Yorkshire, England, and at three years of age came to Canada. In 1848 she was united in marriage to Mr. Luke Bravender who preceded her to the better land five years ago.

To this union six children were born who are Cyrus E. of Armstrong, Albert of Humboldt, Ben of Sierra Madra, California; Mrs. Yarrow of La Porte; and Frank of Los Angeles, California.

In 1854 the family moved to Black Hawk county where they improved a large farm, and in 1876 they moved to Grinnell and later to Armstrong where she resided until death.

Grandma, as she was better known by her hosts of friends, was converted when quite young and was a most consistent Christian, a loving and devoted wife and mother, as is shown by the children whom she left behind as well as the grandchildren who all cherished her, and by their splendid characters for whom she was the sweet example.

For the last six or eight years she suffered greatly, but was ever patient until Thursday morning when the final summons came and the spirit ascended from the tired frail body unto the God who gave it, and she was at Home for ever to await the time when the rest of the dear ones should be gathered in.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Armstrong Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by the pastor Rev. Alonzo Pruit and interment was made in the Armstrong cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1912)
