Armstrong – Funeral services for Agnes Marie Blekfeld, 83, of Armstrong will be held 11 a.m. today, April 25 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong with Pastor David R. Olson officiating. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Ringsted. She died Saturday, April 22 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation was held Monday at Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Armstrong.

Agnes Marie Blekfeld the daughter of Jens and Bertha (Johnson) Weiby was born Nov. 16, 1922 in Ringsted. She was the second oldest of four children: Jens, Theodore Jr. (Ted); Carol ad Glenn.

Agnes attended grade school in Dolliver and Armstrong, graduating from Armstrong High School in 190 and from Gilcrest Beauty School, Fort Dodge in 1942.

On June 29, 1943, she married Donald Edwards in Fort Dodge. They had four children: Donna, Richard (Dick), Patricia and Deborah. They lived in Story City until 1959 when her husband passed away. She and her children moved to Armstrong to be near her parents. She owned and operated Kurlee Qu Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1985.

On Jan. 9, 1964, she married Howard Blekfeld.

She is a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Armstrong.

She is survived by her husband, Howard of Armstrong; her sister, Carol Bourgeois of Gramercy, La.; sister-in-law, Verda Weiby of Cottage Grove, Minn.; her children, Donna (Donald) Lilienthal, of Cyrus, Minn.; Barb Edwards (Ron) Carlson of Estherville; Patricia (Steve) Watt of Estherville and Deborah Lyle of Spencer; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Bonnie Nielsen and her coffee group friends of Armstrong.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, Jens and Bertha Weiby, her husband, Donald Edwards, brothers, Ted and Glenn Weiby and son Richard (Dick) Edwards. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 25, 2006)
