Emma Bilharz Dies
Mrs. Emma Bilharz, 75, Armstrong, died last night at the Holy Family Hospital. Funeral services are pending at the Slaba-Reese Chapel at Armstrong. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 24, 1969)

Rites Conducted for Resident of Armstrong
Services were to be held today at 2 p.m. at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Chapel in Armstrong for Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Bilharz, 75, Armstrong, who died at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Holy Family Hospital as a result of a series of strokes and diabetes complications.

She was born April 29, 1894, in Kossuth County to Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson. She was educated in Kossuth County schools and was married Jan. 3, 1912, to Lawrence L. Bilharz at her parents’ farm home near Armstrong.

She had moved to a farm near Halfa as a girl. After her marriage she farmed near Halfa with her husband until 1929 when they moved to Armstrong. They operated Lefty’s Café in Armstrong for 20 years and retired in 1960. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son, George Bilharz, Louisville, Ky., one granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Williams, Rosemount, Minn.; two great-granddaughters; four sisters, Mrs. Addie Felkey, Estherville, Mrs. Ralph Yokum, Albert Lea, Minn., Mrs. Hazel Sampson, Anderson, Calif., and Mrs. Eilit Jager, St. Paul, Minn.; and one brother, George Patterson, St. Paul, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, and three sisters.

The Rev. Ellis Gasser was to officiate at the service. Burial was scheduled for the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 26, 1969)
