Armstrong – Services for Walter Henry Berggren, 61, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Nazareth Lutheran Church with Pastor Donohue Sarff officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery with military graveside rites by Armstrong VFW Post. He died Wednesday, March 4, 1987 at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 15, 1926 at Swea City, the son of Carl and Alta May (Gettman) Berggren. He attended Swea City School. In July 1947 he was united in marriage with Norma Peterson at Fairmont. Following marriage they lived in Fairmont where he worked at Coast to Coast Store. After moving to Armstrong he worked for the ASCS office in the Armstrong area. He later managed the VFW Post 5232, farmed and sold seed corn. Later he worked for Rohlin Construction Co. and owned and operated the DeLuxe Motel, Armstrong.

He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5232, Armstrong; and Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post 382 at Ringsted.

Survivors include a daughter Cheryll K. Payne and son Dain S. Berggren both of Armstrong; one grandchild; three brothers: Edwin and Marlin Berggren and George Walker; one sister Mrs. John (Delores) Rezac, Jr., Armstrong.

He was preceded in death by his wife who died April 10, 1986; parents and one grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 7, 1987)
