Jackson – Committal Service for Mrs. George (Bertha [Geneva]) Africa, 83, Jackson and formerly of Armstrong, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong. She died Saturday [May 22, 1982] in the Jackson Hospital.

Friends may call at Sathe and Son Funeral Home in Jackson from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Bertha Valen was born Feb. 12, 1899 at Bruce, Iowa. She married George Africa on June 26, 1926 at Fort Dodge. He died in 1960. She had been the town librarian at Armstrong for many years.

Survivors include her niece, Mary McLeod, Balingbrook, Ill., and several other nieces and nephews. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 24, 1982)
