Dr. Hoganson, 71, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012. Services will be held at Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Road in West Des Moines on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the church.

He was born on November 25, 1940 to Hogan and Ruby Hoganson in Estherville, IA. Dr. Hoganson graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He continued his education at Drake University with a Master's degree in Biology, and received his Ph. D. in Microbiology from the University of Iowa. Dr. Hoganson was a professor of biology at Drake University from 1974 until retirement in 2007. He has worked for Pioneer since 2009.

Dean was a family man and loved coaching his daughters' softball teams. He taught Sunday school classes and served as a deacon in his church. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan and enjoyed following the Drake Bulldogs and Iowa Hawkeyes.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Pam; his daughters, Heidi Hill and Dr. Deana Hoganson (Dr. Aaron From); grandchildren, Ella and Camden Hill, and Lillian and Gwenyth From; and his sister, Diane (Doug) Lampkin. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harlan Hoganson; and his sister, Doris Hoganson.
